Get Involved: Become a Volunteer
Our volunteer roots can be traced back to 1887 when the Ladies Auxiliary was formed. Since then The Glebe Centre has continued its long and proud tradition of recruiting and supporting caring and committed Volunteers and Students who exemplify our Mission, Vision and Values. Volunteers are integral members of the organization and the skills, expertise and talents they bring are paramount to offering the best care and services to our Residents and Clients.
Just a few hours of your time means so much to our Residents and Clients. We appreciate the unique skills you bring to us and we hope to match you with the right volunteer position.
To be considered as a volunteer at The Glebe Centre, you must be 14 years of age or over. Screening is conducted on all applicants to ensure suitability for positions of trust. Please complete the Volunteer Application Form, and Confidentiality Form. We also require that all volunteers successfully complete Accessibility Training and Worker Health and Safety Training. If you are under the age of 18 please ensure that a parent or guardian signs the back of the application form.
Once the screening process is completed and the prospective volunteer has been accepted, arrangements for a general orientation will follow. The orientation process provides you with the necessary information required to work as a volunteer at The Glebe Centre as well as information specific to your chosen role. Job specific training is provided by the area that you will be working in. At your first meeting, you will be given a letter that will allow for a free police check. All volunteers are required to have a police check when volunteering with vulnerable people.
A good command of the English language is required. Fluency in a second language, especially Mandarin, Cantonese or American Sign Language is always an asset. We encourage a six-month commitment.
Please contact the Coordinator of Volunteer Services at (613) 238-2727 ext. 353 or email volunteerservices@glebecentre.ca to set up an appointment or to get more information.
The Glebe Centre is committed to creating an environment for volunteers where they are valued and respected for their contribution and ensuring that each Volunteer has an enjoyable and meaningful experience. Glebe Centre volunteers participate in so many ways, sharing their unique skills and talents. Please check out our Current Opportunities.
We hope you’ll join our volunteer team.
