A family and friends council in a long-term care home is a self-led, self-determining, volunteer organization composed of family members and important friends of residents. The Family and Friends Council at the Glebe Centre was formed in 2007.
It provides a regular and convenient venue for mutual support and encouragement among families and friends of residents. It provides Glebe Centre Management a simple and effective way to approach families and friends for input on issues, policies and practices affecting their loved ones.
Address concerns and suggest improvements for better resident care and quality of life.
Welcome new families and offer guidance and support as they adjust to the long-term care environment.
Organize sessions on topics such as Emotion Based Care, Care Plans, Palliative and End of Life Care and navigating long-term care systems.
Council members raise issues of collective concern with Glebe Centre Management team, sharing information on policies and practices as well as planning events to promote positive change within the Home.

The Family and Friends Council meet via ZOOM on the third Wednesday of every month at 4:00 p.m. (except July, August and December).
