As we approach the holiday season, it’s a wonderful time to pause and reflect on the past six months at Abbotsford. This period has been filled with energy, creativity, and meaningful connections, all made possible by our incredible members, clients, volunteers, and staff.
Our fundraising efforts have been a true highlight. The Womensong Collective delighted us with their moving performances, bringing our community together through music. The 2025 Garden Tour showcased the beauty and creativity of local gardens, inspiring many and raising crucial support for our programs. The Great Glebe Garage Sale once again proved to be a spectacular success, bringing together neighbors and friends in a spirit of generosity and fun. Our festive Craft Sale highlighted the creativity of our volunteers, adding a cheerful touch to the season while contributing to our programs and services.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our volunteers. Their commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication make everything we do possible. Special thanks goes to a long-time member whose birthday celebration turned into a heartwarming fundraising event, demonstrating the power of community spirit. We also celebrate the efforts of everyone involved in our Birthday Circle and all the wonderful volunteer-led initiatives that bring joy and connection to our members every day. Their work does not go unnoticed—it is the heartbeat of Glebe Centre, Community Programs and Services at Abbotsford.
We round out our celebration of 50 years as a community centre serving seniors with a lovely rendition of Abbotsford House by artist and member Randy Cameron. We look forward to the next 50 years.
Behind the scenes, our devoted team has been working hard to prepare for the holidays, ensuring our space is warm, welcoming, and full of cheer for everyone who visits.
While this season brings joy, it also comes with bittersweet moments. We will be saying goodbye to Kirsten, who is retiring after 35 years of exceptional service, 10 of them in community support services at Abbotsford. We are sad to see her leave but are thrilled for her as she embarks on this new chapter. Kirsten’s contributions have left a lasting mark on our community, and she will be deeply missed, we hope to see her back as a volunteer in the future.
Looking forward, 2026 promises to be an exciting year at Abbotsford at the Glebe Centre. We are expanding our evening programs, including the Learned Lecture Series and new lifelong learning opportunities.
Our community shopping trips will continue, providing connection and support for our older adults, alongside the many other programs that enrich their lives, promote independence, and foster social engagement.
The past six months have reminded us of the strength, generosity, and creativity that define our community. We are incredibly grateful to all who have contributed their time, talent, and passion to make Abbotsford a place of learning, joy, and connection. As we look to the new year, we are excited to continue building on this momentum, offering programs and experiences that celebrate life, foster learning, and support our older adults in every way possible.
