Community Support Services

The Glebe Centre Community Programs staff arrange many essential services to make living at home a little easier for older adults and adults with disabilities.

Service Arrangement for Home Support

Staff manage a directory of businesses and individuals who provide services within the home. Staff screen all the home support workers and businesses to ensure they are insured & have a Police Reference Check for Working with Vulnerable Sector. Staff assess the clients’ needs and provide a list of workers or businesses. All the work is supervised by the client or their family and the worker or business is paid directly by the client or their family.

Home support workers and businesses can provide assistance with light housekeeping, respite, meal preparations, companionship, supervision, yard work minor repairs, and snow removal. Workers utilize the clients’ vacuum, cleaning products, other tools and products.

These community programs are available to older adults and adults with physical disabilities in the following neighbourhoods:

  • The Glebe
  • Old Ottawa South
  • Ottawa East
  • Heron Park
  • Riverside Park
  • Hunt Club (west of Bank Street)
  • Carleton Heights

If you live outside these areas we provide assistance to locate the appropriate Community Support Service agency for your particular area.

Adult Day Programs

Time Well Spent

We offer two adult day programs at The Glebe Centre Community Programs. One is for those who are frail, at risk of isolation or need extra support to socialize with others. The other one is for those who are living with early to middle stages of dementia or other cognitive challenges.

Trishaw program

Cycling Without Age

The Glebe Centre Community Programs is a member of the Cycling Without Age (CWA) community, and we know first-hand the value and benefits of sharing a bike ride around the neighborhood or along the canal to a scenic park with older adults comfortably seated in our Trishaw, a three-wheeled battery-powered passenger bike. Passengers feel a sense of freedom and joy as they exchange smiles with passersby and chat with their volunteer pilot.

If you are a community member who likes bike riding and interested in addressing social isolation and loneliness of older adults, consider volunteering with the CWA program at The Glebe Centre Community Programs. All volunteers receive training on the Trishaw. (Link to volunteer page)
