The Resident Services Department oversees a wide variety of Resident focused programs such as Therapeutic Recreation and Activities including art and music programs, Spiritual Care, Admissions, Social Services, Physiotherapy and Volunteer Services.
Together, the department is comprised of 11 full-time staff members and over 200 volunteers and students who regularly lend their time and skill to enhance the lives of Glebe Centre Residents. Whether attending a worship service, participating in Residents’ Council, going on a van trip, painting a picture, enjoying a concert or our Welcome Tea and Information Session, you can count on the Resident Services team to enhance the lives of all who call the Glebe Centre home.
At The Glebe Centre we believe that engaging Residents in therapeutic recreation programming and activities provides a sense of purpose and context necessary for creating meaningful lives and a sense of wellness. Qualified program staff plan and implement programs that consider the individual needs and abilities of each Resident. The goal of programming is to increase independence, maximize abilities, promote positive health outcomes and provide opportunities for fun and enjoyment.

Engagement in activities that tap into creative potential such as art improves physical and emotional health, increases feelings of confidence and self-esteem, enriches relationships, and strengthens morale even for those individuals with significant cognitive impairment.
Participating in art programs can serve as a vehicle for self-expression, for maintaining a strong sense of identity, personhood, culture, and connection to community.
Our goal is to offer opportunities to enable older adults to rediscover creativity, meaning and purpose, build and sustain relationships, and enhance the overall quality of their lives.
Re-connecting elders with their favorite music can vastly improve quality of life regardless of their cognitive or physical status. It is especially powerful for those with Alzheimer’s Disease, where it can restore, temporarily but repeatedly, the sense of self which is often lost when memory fails. Personalized music is no cure, but it may well be the best therapy currently available to millions suffering from dementia, depression and loneliness. It can relieve boredom, empower choice, enable memory, and provide avenues for genuine communication with loved ones and caregivers.
