Welcome Message

from the Executive Director

The Glebe Centre was founded in 1886 and has evolved over the years to meet the ever-changing needs of seniors in the City of Ottawa.  Today, the Glebe Centre operates a campus of care, including a fully accredited 254-bed charitable not-for-profit long-term care home and a comprehensive variety of community-based programs, including a senior’s day program.

Having a history that dates back over 130 years, we know that change and challenges are inevitable.  To meet this dynamic nature, the Glebe Centre enters into a strategic planning process which allows the organization to take a detailed and critical look at where we are and where we need to be to continue to meet the needs of our Residents and Clients.

Our 2017 – 2021 Strategic Plan has been implemented with updated Mission, Vision, and Values and a comprehensive action plan with five foundational directions:

  • Direction #1: Continue with the development of the alternative model of care
  • Direction #2: Redefine quality of care from the Residents’ Perspective
  • Direction #3: Build financial strength and capacity to endure that the human and financial resources are available to meet the growing needs of Residents
  • Direction #4: Identify strategies and partnerships to support the capital redevelopment of the Glebe Centre’s campus of care
  • Direction #5: Build strong interdisciplinary management team that has the capacity to address challenges and respond to the changing expectations of the evolving long-term care health care system

While the strategic plan offers a long-term plan for improvement spread over a number of years, 2018 will also bring our CARF Accreditation survey in May or June.  We will also be the first in Canada to implement the BikeAround system which pairs a stationary bike with Google Street View to take individuals with dementia on a virtual ride down memory lane.

The Glebe Centre remains dedicated to working with our Residents and Clients, along with families and other stakeholders, to create an environment and culture that supports individual care needs while encouraging and facilitating the maximum degree of independence possible.  We are honoured to provide this care through a dedicated staff of 380 and growing and 200+ volunteers and students, all of whom bring their compassion and expertise to the lives of those we serve.  Welcome to our website where you will learn about all of this and more!

Sincerely,
Emma Tibbo, Executive Director
